What a citation is
When an assistant answers, it leans on a small set of sources it trusts — directories, trade press, comparison pages, reference sites. Those are citations. They are the evidence behind the recommendation, and they are doing the persuading long before your own website gets a look.
What a citation gap is
A citation gap is a source the machines lean on in your category where your name simply isn't present. Every gap is a place a competitor gets quoted and you don't. They accumulate quietly: no error message, no missed enquiry to review, just an answer that lists three names and none of them are yours.
Why it matters
Assistants rarely recommend what they can't corroborate. Without citations you are not judged and rejected — you are never entered into the comparison at all. That distinction matters, because the second outcome leaves no trace in any dashboard you own.
How we close it
We map the sources actually cited around your category, rank them by influence, and work the route to being present and correctly described in the ones that move the answer. Then we re-observe, because the only proof that a gap closed is the answer changing.
“Being uncitable is not a reputation problem. It is an evidence problem — and evidence can be built.”
